It feels like ages since we hit the submit button on our application to OSCR. (the office of the Scottish Charity Regulator) But today we got the good news that we have been waiting on, we have now been confirmed with charitable status.

We are listed as an SCIO, a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, which means that we are listed on OSCR as well as companies house.

One of the main reasons for applying to be an SCIO was to give reassurance to our partners. Many are more comfortable, and in some cases, will only work with, regulated bodies. We don’t blame them, previously it has been difficult to describe the work we do, and at times it felt like we were a bit of a rag tag group of zero waste idealists, which we are, but now we’re an organised one.
Now we can give our partners that reassurance and also give our volunteers an identifiable organisation to be proud to be part of.

There are so many people to thank for help in getting this far. All of our partners have been superb and our volunteers as ever, have been amazing in continuing the good work throughout all the chaos. A special mention and thank you does have to go to Tommy McLean from Almond & Western Voluntary Sector Forum for your guidance.
