Tummies Not Trash is a fully volunteer run organisation (yes, ALL of us are volunteers). We have three board trustees, Clare (Chair), Sharon (Vice Chair), Susan (Secretary), and teams of volunteers across Edinburgh. Included in our organisation we also have to mention our amazing store partners that donate their surplus items, our charity partners, and our local communities who all work together to prevent food from going to landfill.
We couldn’t exist without the amazing cooperation and community spirit from all of the above. If you share our goal of a zero waste world, get in touch and join us.
Our Trustees

Clare is a marketing consultant and one of the founding trustees of Tummies Not Trash.
“I’ve always been passionate about preventing waste, I am constantly shocked at what people would throw away and want to challenge attitudes towards waste and our consumption.
I started collecting and distributing surplus food in 2021 and was continuously astounded at the amounts of food that would have otherwise been thrown away, even in our tiny area of Edinburgh.
It really upsets me.
In 2022, having completely fallen down the food waste rabbit hole, I started reaching out to more local people and organisations in our community and along with the other founding trustees decided to create Tummies Not Trash”

Sharon is a nurse, mum and holiday addict; as well as being one of the founding trustees of Tummies Not Trash
“Hi, I’m Sharon. I got into food sharing after discovering an app that allowed people to share surplus food and non food items within the community, it was a great way for me to recycle items that I no longer wanted. Then I started collecting surplus food from one of the large supermarkets, and through the same app, then able to share out with others, thus preventing food that was otherwise destined for the waste…. Food that was still perfectly edible!!!
I then started volunteering with a local food sharing group, where I would re-distribute excess food from businesses to the community, particularly homeless shelters and hostels. It’s been quite an eye opener seeing just how much food I have been able to save from going to landfill, and the quantities of ‘waste’ most major supermarkets produce”

Susan is a school travel escort, glamorous mum, and founding trustee of Tummies Not Trash.
“Hi, I’m Susan, mum to 22 year old twin sons and I first got involved in saving surplus food about two years ago. I was astonished at how much perfectly good food was going to waste and registered on a free food sharing app after reading about it on Facebook. I started off as a food waste hero collecting from my local Tesco, listing the items on the app and sharing with people in my local community.
I’ve changed a lot of my friends perceptions about using food that is on or after it’s use by/ best before dates. I am proud to have saved so much food from going to landfill and have enjoyed meeting new friends whilst doing so”
