What we do
We collect surplus food from supermarkets and businesses across Edinburgh and make it available to the community.
Good food shouldn’t go to waste. Simple as that.
How it works
Every day, our team collects surplus food that can no longer be sold but is still perfectly good to eat.
Our collection team then take it back to our Hub, sort it, so that it’s safely available for everyone when the hub opens.
People can come along, choose the foods they like, and fill a basket for a small donation.
Where the food comes from
We work with local supermarkets and retailers who set aside surplus food for collection.
This includes:
- fruit and vegetables
- bread and bakery items
- chilled food
- cupboard essentials
- freezer items
- seasonal stock
Instead of being thrown away, this food goes straight back into the community.
Why we do it.
Food waste is a huge problem across the UK.
Perfectly good food is thrown away every day, even though it has taken time, energy, and resources to produce.
We believe that food should be eaten, not wasted.
By redistributing surplus food, we:
- reduce waste
- make better use of existing resources
- give food a second chance to be used
More than just food
Tummies Not Trash is more than a place to pick up food.
It’s a space where people feel welcome, treated fairly, and part of something positive.
Just good food and a friendly faces
